Every year on March 14, nerds celebrate Pi Day (from the Greek letter Pi = 3.14… with which we can calculate the circumference of a circle, among other things). Pi has an infinite number of decimal places with no fixed pattern. Musician Canton Becker used a number of homemade samples (downloadable from www.tiny.cc/cbecker) and some software to create, based on Pi, a whopping 114-year meditative piece of music (titled Shepard’s Pi) that never repeats itself. The virtual tape deck allows you to fast-forward and even search for specific groups of numbers, such as your date of birth.
The piece of music you can here play.
