A cellular automaton is a system in which cells are assigned a value (often represented by a color) that changes over time according to the value of the adjacent cells and the rules of the system. One of those lines (Wolfram 126, for those who want to know) someone has used to unleash on the pixels your iPhone camera sees, these pixels only have two values; black or white. The result is often surprising and reminiscent of computer graphics from days gone by. The app with which you make these images yourself is called appropriate Camera.
