To make a splash at a dinner despite your poor cooking skills, tell your guests that the products served are from organic farming. Researchers from the University of Gavle in Sweden conducted the experiment by offering a group of testers two identical coffees but claiming that one of the two was labeled organic. The volunteers tasted both coffees and judged the so-called organic one to be better.
the organic label is a guarantee of taste qualityin people’s minds, so much so that the mere belief that a food is labeled organic is enough to make it tastier.
“We show that eco-labels not only justify paying more for a better product, they also improve the perception of food in the mouth. Who would need cream or sugar for their coffee when they know that it is organic?”, explains Patrik Sorqvist, author of the study, published in the scientific journal Plos one.
Organic, a positive image
This survey is in line with previous surveys on the perception of organic. In particular, they revealed that consumers tend to assume that organic foods are healthier and contain fewer calories than others, when this is not necessarily the case.
In France, a recent Nutrinet study has confirmed this good opinion of organic: the French think that organic products are better for your health(69.9%) and more environmentally friendly (83.7%).
