The flu epidemic is not very virulent but persists. France has crossed the two million identified cases. 99 deaths have been reported to the Institut de Veille Sanitaire.
The two million mark has been crossed. Two million is the number of people infected with the flu virus since the start of the epidemic. Far from weakening, the virus is still very active in France. According to the Institut de Veille Sanitaire (InVS), the epidemic peak should soon be crossed.
In one week, 344,000 people were infected with the flu. The epidemic is “still very active”, underlines the InVS, and the visits to the emergency rooms remain very numerous. In these services, children aged 15 are the most represented. A slowdown is however to be noted in five regions, including Hauts-de-France, Île-de-France and Provence-Alpes-Côte-D’azur.

99 deaths
The Institut de Veille Sanitaire nonetheless calls on the population to remain vigilant, particularly populations at risk. This epidemic remains not very virulent: the virus of type B mainly circulates. But 704 serious cases have been identified – 99 of which have resulted in death. Among these people, a significant proportion was not vaccinated.
If it is too late to protect yourself with a vaccine, other preventive measures can be put in place, from both sick and healthy people. They consist, in the first place, of washing your hands regularly. Patients are also advised to cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing.
