A woman was disfigured and lost her sight after undergoing cosmetic surgery.
She wanted to treat herself to a new cosmetic surgery operation. Carol Bryan has lost an eye and the plastic beauty she so coveted. At 54, this American decided to embark on an awareness campaign on the damage of cosmetic surgery, after having been disfigured following such an intervention.
To the Anglo-Saxon press, she recounts the ordeal she experienced. As she approached her forties, Carol Bryan began taking botox injections. In 2009, on the advice of her plastic surgeon, she opted for an injection of “fillers”, these absorbable injectable fillers supposed to offer a less invasive solution than a facelift. She then wanted to give more volume to her cheekbones and perfect her forehead.
Side effects
But Carol Bryan was injected with certain products intended only for specific areas of the face, and contraindicated in her situation. The side effects then appeared: bruises, swelling …
Terrified by her appearance, Carol Bryan lived for four years recluse on herself, concealed so as not to show her face. In 2013, her daughter decided to get her out of there and organize her care.
The first reconstructive surgery operation took place in April 2013; it lasted over 16 hours. As the products hardened over time, doctors encountered many difficulties. During the procedure, Carol Bryan’s optic nerve was affected; she lost her sight in one eye.

A second operation took place in October 2013. To repair her forehead, Carol Bryan had to undergo a skin graft using tissue from her back. Her forehead finally returned to normal after a third surgery in December 2013. Two more operations followed in 2014 and 2015.
Through her testimony, Carol Bryan wishes to alert people to the risks associated with these interventions. In the United States, 15 million people have undergone some form of cosmetic surgery.
