What is true about the coronavirus?
Thanks to social media, people get to read news very quickly, but there is also a lot of nonsense with it. Sometimes such a fake story spreads very quickly, faster than the virus itself. Five myths debunked about the coronavirus!
Unfortunately, a number of false stories about the coronavirus are now circulating. We debunk to 5 fake advice regarding COVID-19!
1. Drinking hot water or taking a bath
Drinking lots of warm water, taking a warm bath, does that help? After all, the virus thrives in a wet and cold environment.
That is true in itself, but higher temperatures do not stop the virus. Also, only the temperature of your skin rises, not your body as a whole. Taking a bath that is too hot can burn your skin.
And vice versa, it is not bad to drink cold water, or water with ice. That neither helps nor hinders the virus.
2. Eating garlic, using cocaine and gargling salt water kills the virus
Garlic has been attributed legendary powers for many centuries, according to those who believe in it you can use it to scare away vampires. But it does nothing against the coronavirus. Cocaine would also help: not true, it is a dangerous drug that is bad for your health. Rinsing your throat and gargling with salt water would also help – the virus stays in your throat for 4 days before it goes to your lungs, it is claimed. Sheer nonsense! There is currently no vaccine or drug against COVID-19 and these home-garden-and-kitchen remedies do not help either.
3. Disinfect yourself with alcohol
Use alcohol to kill corona. Sounds plausible? That’s not it. Alcohol is already unhealthy to drink, but smearing it on your skin also does nothing for extra protection or control. Bleach, turpentine neither. The best thing is to wash your hands well with soap.
4. Hold your breath
Can you hold your breath for more than 10 seconds without coughing? Don’t you have a tight feeling in your chest? Congratulations, then you don’t have coronavirus.
Nonsense, unfortunately. This says absolutely nothing about whether you have the flu or not.
5. Lie under a UV lamp
UV light would also kill the coronavirus. No, that’s nonsense. Prolonged exposure to UV can damage your skin
So what does help?
- Wash hands regularly
- Using paper tissues
- No more shaking hands
- Staying at home and avoiding social contact
- Go work from home!
