Exposure to smartphone waves would reduce the quality of sperm. By integrating SilverShell technology, the French have developed underpants supposed to protect fertility.
The laptop in the pocket of the pants is a practical storage. But it is also a deleterious solution for the quality of sperm. A study from the University of Exeter (England) indeed proved in 2014 that the electromagnetic waves emitted by smartphones reduce the mobility and viability of sperm. Faced with this data, which does not however foreshadow a risk of infertility, entrepreneurs have nevertheless embarked on a promising business. That of the anti-electromagnetic wave underwear.
The American company Belly Armor launched last year, in France, the first boxer shorts of this type. “It is intended for future dads who wish to protect their fertility,” she stressed. To extol the benefits of its product, the company mentions “a patented protective fabric shield, composed of 54% silver fibers. The underwear thus creates a protective screen for the genitals against electromagnetic waves. It would therefore have the same protective virtues as an aluminum sheet of more than 6 cm, in all discretion, ”she promises.
Boxer shorts that are 99% effective
And this innovation “made in USA” has been emulated in France. More particularly in Haute-Savoie where young entrepreneurs have created the brand Duoounderwear. It also makes the promise of men’s underwear made from a fabric capable of blocking the waves emitted by cell phones. What would make the originality of the product is firstly local efficiency, with a silver thread concentrated on the front part of the boxer brief. The ideal, according to them, to counter the waves of the cell phone in the pocket. In addition, the designers provide optimal protection, with more than 30% of money distributed throughout the boxer. And the efficiency seems to be there.
Tested in a real situation in a COFRAC accredited laboratory (1), the “SilverShell” fabric would provide more than 99% protection against smartphone waves. As if the cell phone was 30 meters away. Reliable tests? There is nothing to dispute them even if theUFC Que Chooser has conducted its own investigation into a similar product from another brand. And the result was as follows: “Even bundled up in three layers of underpants, our laptops pick up the signal two out of three times,” concluded the consumer association.
Doctors prefer to study the risks
By the way, it should be noted that even the medical community is skeptical. In L’Obs Le Plus, Prof. Stéphane Droupy, urologist and andrologist at the University Hospital of Nîmes, confided: ” Instead of wondering about the effectiveness of this new underwear (that of Belly Armor), we must start by wondering if they do not themselves have a deleterious effect on fertility. Indeed, it is possible that they increase the local temperature and it is known that the increase in temperature is harmful for fertility. This could be risky, especially if the product is openly sold as “therapeutic”, “feared this specialist.
So, for those who would be disappointed on reading this article, know that there is still a miracle formula to optimize the chances of perpetuating your offspring. Sleeping naked or wearing loose underpants would improve male fertility, according to a team of American researchers from Stansford University, in partnership with the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. All while of course keeping your smartphone at a distance!
