Does it matter which cream you use?
There are many – persistent – myths about skin care. But also clear facts. We list five common fables and facts. For example, is it true that you should age-appropriate skin care? Can you eat the skin healthy? And does it matter which cream you use?
Five fables
1. Skin care should be age appropriate
New. Good skin care is tailored to the condition of the skin. One woman already has a dehydrated skin at the age of 40 and therefore needs a creamy, moisturizing cream, while the other has very oily skin and should definitely not use a rich cream. Which cream is most suitable is therefore determined by the skin type.
2. There is no difference between day and night cream
That is not true. There is indeed a difference between a day and night cream. A day cream protects the skin against external influences, such as UV light. A night cream nourishes and supports the skin’s recovery process.
3. Those chemical ingredients in creams are unhealthy
Not true. Both substances from nature and substances from the laboratory can be safe or unsafe. Sometimes natural substances are toxic and the counterfeit chemical is no longer toxic. Modern cosmetic products are well tested before they come on the market and are completely safe.
4. Cosmetics are an unnecessary luxury
New. Cosmetics are more than makeup and pampering. We also use cosmetics for our personal hygiene. Just think of toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant. Daily cleaning of the skin is also necessary, as is the use of sun products to prevent sunburn and skin aging. Of course there are also ‘superfluous’ cosmetics, such as make-up. But with makeup, you can emphasize your strengths and cover up weaknesses, thereby boosting your confidence.
5. A summer tan washes away in the shower or after exfoliating.
New. The tanning process starts in the pigment cells. That’s where the color is created. This pigment protects the skin cells against UVB radiation from sunlight. The pigment production only stops when you stop going out in the sun. The pigment then slowly disappears from the skin, which then becomes increasingly whiter.
Five facts
1. Laughter gives you crow’s feet
That’s right. Anyone who frowns, laughs or squints a lot will eventually end up with fine lines. But that’s no reason not to laugh. Because laughing is good for body and mind. We’ll take those crow’s feet into the bargain.
2. It is important to moisturize the skin from the inside as well as the outside
Yes, this is correct. Take care of the skin with a moisturizing cream and drink enough to keep the skin as moisture-rich as possible. This keeps the skin healthy and beautiful for longer.
3. Existing wrinkles do not disappear, but they can fade with an anti-wrinkle cream
Yes. That too is correct. It is often thought that wrinkles disappear with an anti-wrinkle cream. Unfortunately, a wrinkle that is already there will not go away. However, you can make the wrinkle less deep or fade with a good anti-wrinkle cream. That is why it is important to start with good skin care on time. That can certainly slow down the wrinkle formation process.
4. Women’s skin is more sensitive to pigment spots than men’s skin
Unfortunately: that’s true. Due to changes in the hormone balance, disturbances in pigment formation can occur. But there are other causes of pigmentation spots.
5. What you eat affects the condition of the skin
True. The vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients from our diet contribute to a healthy body and skin. We can also ‘feed’ our skin from the outside with products that contain vitamins and other valuable nutrients.
