Air, water, soil and climate are the cornerstones of healthy recreation. The Germans understood that very well. Great wealth of natural remedies
Germany has an abundance of mineral and thermal springs. And mud, brine, sulfur and herbs also have therapeutic properties. It is no coincidence that you will find more than 350 certified spas and spas in our neighboring country. There are coastal spas, bathing and drinking spas, climatic spas and Kneipp spas, as well as mineral and mud spas. The status of spa is not just for every city, because there is a very strict procedure before you receive an official seal of approval from the German Spa Association. For example, the quality of the (sea) water and the air quality is examined and it is determined that it meets the requirements for a beneficial effect. The knowledge of the healing powers of water is, incidentally, as old as civilization. It is not for nothing that the current thalassotherapy based on seawater has an ancient Greek name. And the Romans even established thermal baths and spas, for example in today’s Wiesbaden, Aachen and Baden-Baden.
Soothing warm thermal water
In Germany, groundwater with a temperature of at least two degrees is called thermal water. What people intuitively understood in ancient times is now scientifically substantiated: thermal water contains dissolved salts and often minerals as well. It relaxes, stimulates blood circulation and has a positive effect on rheumatism, joint disorders and allergies. Bubbling water pressure also contributes to the therapeutic effect: it relaxes the muscles and relieves the joints. And what could be more pleasant than enjoying water, brine and steam baths in the thermal bath?
Heather and mud – healthy mineral resources
Heather and natural mud are also rich in minerals. These mineral springs have an anti-inflammatory effect and promote blood circulation, relax muscles and joints and also have an analgesic effect. True all-rounders that are just as effective for skin diseases such as neurodermatitis and psoriasis as for rheumatism and osteoarthritis. They relax muscles and joints, have a soothing effect and strengthen the immune system. If you take a mud pack, the beneficial components are absorbed extra intensively. And thanks to their warmth, these wraps are also extremely relaxing.
Nice forest bathing
In addition to the various therapies offered in the spa itself, the natural environment of most spas is also particularly therapeutic. Air, water, sun, wind and temperature conditions create a climate that strengthens the immune system, reduces susceptibility to infection and is generally beneficial to your health. The salt and iodine content in the air is a blessing for the respiratory system and makes a walk on the beach not only fun, but also extra healthy. Especially if you do it barefoot, as Sebastian Kneipp already recommended. But not only the coast does you good, the German forests are also a paradise for nature lovers and avid hikers. A nice side effect: thanks to the composition of their tree population, they also produce a lot of oxygen. So in the German forests you breathe particularly oxygen-rich air. This stimulates blood circulation and clears the head. In addition to hiking trails, these medicinal forests also have specially created meditation spots and fitness trails. Time to ‘forest bathe’ and clear your head!
