Online betting, gambling… The temptations are numerous and they fear the worst. On the eve of the launch of Euro 2016, the gambling risk prevention website Joueurs Info Service is getting a makeover. The sporting event of the year, which will take place in France from June 10 to July 10, will bring together all European football enthusiasts. They will be nearly 8 million shuddering in the stands, not to mention the millions of supporters absorbed by their screens. And who says sport, says sports betting… Between online games and betting, many supporters will give in to temptation, or even abuse it. Enough to alert the Players Info Services site which, on the sidelines of the Euro, has enriched its internet platform with, among other things, prevention videos.
Over the past twelve months, the number of French people who have played gambling has increased significantly, from 46% to 56%
. Online games concern nearly 2 million people, of whom an estimated 200,000 are excessive gamblers.
Four videos and health professionals available
To make players aware of the risks linked to the abuse of sports betting, the Players Info Services site has posted four prevention videos. Produced by Public Health France, the clips address four themes, including “worrying signs, erroneous beliefs, the reasons for gambling addiction and finally quitting aids”. The objective: to come to the aid of dependent gamblers and their entourage, “by providing them with answers to the attraction exerted by gambling and gambling”, specifies in a press release Public Health France.
In addition to prevention videos, players will have the advice of health professionals. Psychologists, practitioners in the addiction service, psychiatrists and assistants will deliver their expert opinion, providing in particular insights and testimonials, “to help identify the signs of pathological gambling”. In 2015, the Players Info Service site received nearly two million visits. The telephone line has picked up more than 18,000 times.
