Screaming shortage of medical protective equipment
Dutch general practitioners are faced with a crying shortage of face masks and other medical protective equipment. Doctors and other healthcare providers desperately need them to treat patients safely. They therefore make an urgent appeal to individuals and companies: ‘Check whether you still have mouth caps and hand them in’.
There is a huge shortage of mouth caps and other protective equipment for emergency workers. Stocks are running out and not being replenished because factories are not yet able to deliver or because they are being used elsewhere. Dutch GPs therefore make an urgent appeal to people to check whether they have mouth caps and other protective products and to hand them in to them. Companies are also being asked to check excess stocks. Of course, the items must meet certain conditions, because they are intended to protect doctors and other care providers against contamination with, among other things, the corona virus.
What requirements must mouth caps meet?
These are mouth caps – also called dust caps – that are also available in the hardware store. The unopened packaging must then bear the code FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3. Doctors ask people to check whether they may still have copies in the shed or attic.
Companies can also help
Face masks are also widely used in companies. Think of paint shops, chicken farmers and construction. In addition, skin therapists, beauticians, nail stylists and hairdressers have stopped working due to the corona crisis. That means there is a lot of material left unused on the shelf and in the closet that might be able to be donated.
More than mouth caps
It’s not just about face masks. There is also a lack of water-repellent aprons or overalls with long sleeves and of Podior alcohol 80% with virus claim.
Don’t just drop by
Do you have spare protective equipment and would you like to donate it? Nice! It is important to contact your doctor first to check whether the products are the right ones. So call or e-mail your doctor first, then you will also know how best to dispose of the protective equipment.
