The Minister of Health has decided to devote 15 million euros to emergency services, often in a difficult situation during the winter.
With 60-hour weeks, and increasing pressure, the overload of work in the hospital continues! And faced with this situation, it is often the emergency services that toast. So, to avoid any wind of panic during this holiday season, the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine, decided to put his hand in the wallet. It has thus decided to devote 15 million euros to emergency services in difficult situations, “to take into account the influx associated with the winter period. “These resources will be used to finance,” she says, “concrete solutions to ensure quality patient care. »Among the concrete measures, is the optimization of bed management, the establishment of a team of emergency physicians, or the opening of medical beds. why actor details this action plan.
A bed manager at the head of each department
These credits intended for establishments requiring additional resources before winter are part of the policy of strengthening emergency services already initiated by the Minister. The Regional Health Agencies (ARS) are currently implementing, in association with all health professionals, concrete measures to facilitate, for example, the search for available beds for patients.
Thus, a system of bed managers, led by the National Performance Support Agency (ANAP), has been put in place to reduce the time spent by emergency physicians and caregivers looking for beds.
In addition, from 2014, more than 160 establishments will benefit from this support. And in the long term, the 600 establishments with an emergency service will have to be endowed with a “bed management organization” attached to the hospital management. “Evaluations will make it possible to ensure that these devices respond to the difficulties encountered by health establishments”, specifies the ministry.
In addition, recommendations for good emergency downstream management have been disseminated to health establishments in order to improve care. Always with the same objective, to relieve emergency congestion.
The risk of readmission increases
The purification of emergencies poses other problems. This observation also poses additional risks to the health of patients, with the increased risk of medical errors in particular.
Finally, this danger also affects those who have to get out of emergencies and who are no longer in a critical situation.
“A major study has shown that the longer they stay on standby, the more their risk of readmission increases … In general, several scientific studies have shown that overcrowding in emergencies multiplied by 1.7 the mortality of patients to ten. days, and that regardless of the age and the reason for the hospitalization, which is enormous… ”, declared recently in why actor Prof. Jean-Emmanuel de la Coussaye, director of the Emergency Anesthesia Resuscitation unit at the Nîmes University Hospital.
