After the benefits of nuts for type 2 diabetes and on the sperm quality, here is a new study showing that these delicious snacks would also have benefits on the cardiovascular illnesses.
Research conducted over 30 years by Harvard University (United States) and published in the prestigious journal New England Journal of Medicine, shows the obvious link between the regular consumption of nuts and the reduced risk of dying from a Cancer, cardiac arrest and other illnesses.
This study, carried out on more than 118,000 volunteers, showed that people who very regularly consume nuts but also almonds, cashews and hazelnuts have 20% less risk of dying from disease.
Nut eaters were 25% less to die from a cardiovascular problem and 10% less to die from cancer compared to those who did not eat them. The study also found that people who consumed nuts had a longer life expectancy overall even though they did not play sports, ate few fruits and vegetables, and were overweight.
According to Dr. Charles S. Fuchs, oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and professor at Harvard University: “The reduction in mortality is substantial. Eating nuts is comparable to other factors that improve quality of life, just as exercise helps to limitobesity “.
American nutritionists, who were not involved in the study, welcomed these results but questioned the bias of the study because it was partly funded by a foundation representing the interests of 9 nut suppliers. .
However, it confirms other preliminary studies. Thus, as early as 2003, the Food and Drug Administration (the US Food Agency) considered that there was enough evidence to recommend that the population consume 43 g of nuts every day to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
