New nickel alloys can cause severe lung damage in vapers due to the heating element being changed.

Respiratory distress, pneumonia… Electronic cigarettes equipped with new nickel heating elements cause serious lung damage, according to a new study. “The results were so concerning that we felt it was imperative to publish our initial findings quickly, so that e-cigarette users could be warned as soon as possible, especially considering that vapers are exposed to a increased risk of Covid-19″, said Robert A. Kloner, the research director.
Labored, wheezy breathing and gasping
In 2019, e-cigarette designers upgraded the heating element from stainless steel to nickel. “Within an hour of the start of the experiment, we observed signs of severe respiratory distress, including labored breathing, wheezing and gasping, explain the experts. After analyzing the lung tissues of the participants, we found that they were severely affected.” They also observed congestion of red blood cells, obliteration of alveolar spaces and, in some cases, the development of pneumonia.
A new health problem specific to vaping
For almost a year, none of the subjects exposed to the fumes from the stainless steel appliances, with or without additives, contracted respiratory distress. One participant presented an area of inflammation of less than 10% in the lungs.
A new vaping-specific health issue dubbed “E-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury” (EVALI), was recognized in the United States in June 2019. As of March 2020, 2,800 cases of EVALI have been identified in the country, and 68 deaths have been attributed to it. The patients were generally young male vapers.
