An association of vapers is asking for authorization to advertise e-cigarettes. AIDUCE appeals to François Hollande.
The vapers appeal to the French presidency. The vaping products ordinance, published on May 19, caused an uproar in this community of former smokers. The Independent Association of Electronic Cigarette Users (AIDUCE) requests a free appeal to François Hollande and Marisol Touraine. At the heart of its complaints: advertising, now banned.
Since May 20, advertising in favor of the electronic cigarette and its affiliated products has been banned from the airwaves, television and the streets. No poster extolling the merits of a brand, its interest in quitting smoking, will henceforth be tolerated. The decision comes from the Ministry of Health, which included this directive in the law to modernize the health system.
An obstacle to fundamental freedoms
A first easing has been granted concerning the shops: thanks to an amendment, the traders can post advertising inserts on the walls facing the street. But this is not enough for the association of vapers, which calls for further progress.
The AIDUCE asks, neither more nor less, “the presidential pardon”. She therefore wants advertising to be permitted in the name of “fundamental freedoms”. The association believes that the current restriction represents a loss of opportunity for smokers who wish to quit using e-cigarettes. Indeed, access to information on products and best practices is no longer so easily accessible.
But that would be to forget the major weight of the Internet, where information remains available without restriction. Just type “e-cigarette” to find answers and various forums on this device. Not to mention that you just have to go to the store to obtain the advice in question.
