DS is launching the DS 9 E-Tense 250, a plug-in hybrid traction version, the main advantage of which is an electric range of 61 km over its certification cycle. This new variant of the electrified premium sedan starts at € 58,000.
Announced at the presentation of the model in early 2020, the DS 9 E-Tense 250 took its time to land. More than a year after the 225 hp thermal model (traction) and plug-in hybrids of 225 hp (traction) or 360 hp (4×4), DS is finally opening orders for this intermediate variant. As Argus revealed to you last year, this delay is due to the introduction of a new battery for this two-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid model. This accumulator has a gross capacity of 15.6 kWh, against 11.9 kWh for that of the DS 9 E-Tense 225 and 360, while carrying an identical number of cells.
The DS 9 plug-in hybrid “long range”
Thanks to this dedicated battery, the E-Tense 250 is the DS 9 with the best “zero emission” range. DS announces that it can travel 61 km on electricity alone in the WLTP combined cycle, 13 km more than the E-Tense 225, with a speed limited to 135 km / h in this mode. Under its hood, we find the four-cylinder turbo petrol 1.6 PureTech 200 hp from the E-Tense 4×4 360 model, 20 hp more than on board the E-Tense 225, associated with the same front electric motor of 110 ch than the latter. An eight-speed automatic transmission transmits power to the front axle. The manufacturer announces a stopwatch of 8.1 s to go from 0 to 100 km / h and a top speed restricted to 240 km / h. According to the homologation protocols in force, the average consumption is limited to 1.1 L / 100 km and its CO emissions2 of 26 g / km. Figures that can only be considered by multiplying short trips with regular recharging of the battery to 100% on the mains. An operation that would only take 2 h 23 min with the 7.4 kW on-board charger.
The DS 9 E-Tense 250 without bonus or penalty
Like the other DS 9s, this E-Tense 250 is offered with a choice of Performance Line + or Rivoli + finish, at the respective prices of € 58,000 and € 60,900. Despite a range in electric mode of more than 50 km, this starting price of over € 50,000 prevents the sedan from benefiting from any ecological bonus. But this rolling capacity without involving its thermal unit will allow it, despite a weight slightly over 1,800 kg empty, to escape any penalty, including the unprecedented weight tax which is due to come into force in 2022.
