According to a recent Chinese study, consuming a lot of coffee (more than 2 cups a day) would reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer.
More than 2 cups of coffee to prevent prostate cancer
Coffee is known to prevent chronic illnesses like breast cancer or melanoma. It can also reduce the risk of overweight, obesity, and gallstones. It stimulates the brain, improves glucose metabolism, and has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Also affecting the levels of sex hormones, it therefore influences the development and progression of prostate cancer.
Published in the BMJ Open, this study was conducted by the Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University (China). Researchers collected medical data from 1.1 million men in the United States, Europe and Japan. The results indicated that 2 to 9 cups per day could reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer by an average of 9%. Each additional cup represents 1% less risk. The study also shows that excessive consumption would reduce the risk of localized prostate cancer by 7%, while advanced and fatal prostate cancer was reduced by 12 to 16%. As a reminder, prostate cancer is responsible for 9,000 deaths per year in France. There are also over 50,000 new cases each year.
” This study suggests that increased coffee consumption may be associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer. More research is still needed to explore the underlying mechanisms and active compounds in coffee. If the combination is further found to be a causal effect, men could be encouraged to increase their coffee intake to potentially reduce the risk of prostate cancer. »Develop the authors of this study.
