The maternity hospital in Dourdan will no longer operate from October 21 for at least a month. The Regional Health Agency has requested several rectifications from management.
The maternity hospital in Dourdan (Essonne) will close its doors to parturients on Monday, October 21 following an injunction from the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Île-de-France. Lack of staff, non-compliance with standards … many security breaches were pointed out in a report that followed the death of an infant last June. The Agency gives management one month to rectify the situation.
But what is she asking for to allow the hospital to reopen its maternity hospital?
Increase headcount
The Regional Health Agency says that the activity of the maternity hospital in Dourdan will resume as soon as the security breaches have been addressed by the hospital. In particular, it will be necessary to compensate for the lack of personnel. During the incident that triggered the investigation, only a midwife was present in the maternity ward. The regulations require that at least one person can assist him. The management of the hospital has already announced that interviews were planned. The objective is to recruit enough staff to ensure the security necessary for the reopening of the service.
Bring the premises up to standard
The ARS Île-de-France investigation also pointed to problems in the allocation of premises. According to France Info, the pre-work rooms were used as work rooms. Health standards were therefore not applied by staff during deliveries. During a press conference, the hospital management affirmed that the one-month deadline for upgrading would be respected. This will include in particular a correct allocation of premises and strict compliance with it.
Pending the reopening of the maternity ward, deliveries will be provided by the surrounding hospitals (Etampes, Rambouillet, Arpajon, Orsay-Longjumeau). Some 90 women are affected. On the other hand, the Dourdan hospital will continue to ensure the follow-up of young mothers and gynecological consultations.
