The epidemic resumes. If you have covid-19 right now, keep your new QR Code!
- New hospitalizations are on the rise, particularly among those aged 80 and over.
- The BA.5 variant becomes the majority in France, and gradually replaces BA.2.
- 225 people died of Covid-19 between June 20 and 26.
Covid-19 is circulating more and more in France. According to the last status report of Public Health Francepublished on June 30, nearly 500,000 people tested positive in the week of June 20-26. All regions and all age groups are concerned. But the increase is particularly marked in children: the incidence rate increased by 65% among 0-9 year olds during this period. Hospitalizations are also on the rise: on June 28, 912 people were in critical care, an increase of 7% compared to June 21.
A peak expected at the end of July
The trend should remain the same in the coming weeks. During an interview at RTLon June 30, Jean-François Delfraissy, the president of the Scientific Council, said: “The peak is not there yet, the peak of contamination will be rather for the end of July. However, he wanted to reassure the French, specifying that the Covid-19 was not going “not spoil the summer, because we are vaccinated”.
But the vaccination coverage is not progressing as fast as the contaminations. “As of June 27, (…) only 25.5% of those aged 60-79 and 31.3% of those aged 80 and over who were eligible had received their second booster dose”noted Public Health France. Since the beginning of April, people over 60 can receive this new injection, people over 80 have had access to it since the end of March. This dose of vaccine can be given three months after the last booster dose. “The protection conferred by the vaccine against Covid-19 decreases over timeemphasizes the Ministry of Health. For people at risk of developing a serious form of the disease, it is therefore necessary to renew this protection with an additional booster..”
An infection is worth a booster dose
For those recently infected, the first booster dose was not necessary this winter, as the infection results in “an immune response at least equivalent to that of a booster vaccine”specifies the Ministry of Health. If you have recently tested positive for Covid-19, during an antigen or PCR test, it is important to keep the QR code sent to you by Health Insurance, advises Numerama. The digital media specialist points out that if a fourth dose of vaccine is recommended in the coming months for the entire population, this code will serve as proof of contamination and/or recovery. To do this, you must print or save it, or better yet download it to the TousAntiCovid application. The QR code is accessible thanks to the link sent by SIDEP in an SMS, received after the test.
