British celebrity chef and restaurateur Jamie Oliver says children’s milk drinks are way too sweet. They are as harmful to him as sodas and are part of the childhood obesity “disaster” in the UK as reported The Independent.
Last April, the United Kingdom adopted a tax on drinks containing between 5 and 8 grams of sugars. Dairy drinks, falling within the category of dairy products, are not concerned. Which is not to Jamie Oliver’s liking, and he makes it known.
Display the number of spoons of sugar
At the beginning of May he visited the British Parliament accompanied by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstal, also leader, to present their proposal. The two men are calling for clear display of nutritional information on packaging. They ask in particular to indicate the number of spoons of sugar contained in each product. It would be a way to help parents navigate easily.
“The best choice for health has to be the easiest choice,” says Jamie Oliver. The two chefs have brought milk drinks to Parliament which they consider to be far too sweet. They also presented soda bottles. To illustrate the positive impact of the tax, they hung the equivalent in sugar packets before and after, revealing a clear reduction in quantity, as shown in the video published by the Guardian.
At the same time, the two chefs with the well-oiled number denounced the promotions of the type “1 bought, 1 offered” pushing to the consumption of fatty and sweet foods.
