In a large study published on September 3, Public Health France reveals that all French people have traces of everyday pollutants in their bodies. Bisphenols, phthalates, parabens, glycol ethers, brominated flame retardants and perfluorinated compounds …
What is the presence of pollutants in the human body of the French? Researchers have looked into the question using a representative sample of the French population made up of 1104 children and 2503 adults.
Adults and children: all concerned
Their urine, serum and hair were analyzed, and a questionnaire on lifestyle habits and food consumption was submitted to them. The entire population examined showed traces of pollutants in their body. This study also made it possible to “quantify the presence of these pollutants in the population and better understand the sources of exposure“.
Three points regarding the sources of exposure were emphasized by the researchers: “Food does not appear to be an exclusive source of exposure to these substances. The use of cosmetics and care products increases the levels of impregnation of parabens and glycol ethers. The frequency of ventilation of the housing has an influence on the levels of impregnation of perfluorinated and brominated flame retardants: the more the housing is ventilated, the lower the levels of impregnation.“
