Since February 1, it is no longer mandatory to isolate yourself if you test positive for Covid-19. But does this mean that there is no more circulation of the virus? That we have to stop protecting ourselves? No ! The president of the Committee for monitoring and anticipating health risks (Covars), Brigitte Autran, took stock at the microphone of France Info. “If there is a message to remember, it is that the Covid virus is decreasing but it is not gone”she said.
The virus settles among us, just like others with whom we coexist rather well, like the flu. But it is not gone and it will continue to be part of our lives, in epidemic waves, which scientists hope will become less virulent over time. That said, a year ago the number of daily contaminations was 300,000, against only 5,000 today. We are of course in a decreasing phase of the epidemic, in Europe at least. But should we continue to protect ourselves?
Should we continue to be vaccinated?
If the virus is decreasing, it is partly thanks to vaccination, which slows down its transmission and the severity of symptoms. So you have to keep getting vaccinated.especially for fragile populations such as the elderly, with comorbidity factors…
When to wear the mask?
The mask is no longer mandatory in most public places and is no longer necessary in the current phase in places that involve promiscuity. On France Info, Brigitte Autran still advises to wear one if you have symptoms in the respiratory tractto protect others.
“As with any illness with an acute respiratory infection, it remains highly recommended for people tested positive for Covid-19, as well as people who have been exposed to a contagious person and are likely to develop the disease, respect barrier gestures, to be tested and to avoid contact with fragile people“, also indicated the Ministry of Health, during a press briefing on January 31.
