According to a new Yougov poll unveiled this Sunday, the fear of contracting Covid-19 remains very present in France, despite increasingly marked hostility regarding the wearing of compulsory masks.
- 52% of French people are afraid of contracting or transmitting Covid-19
- At 64% women seem to be the most fearful which would be linked to their worries for their children
- The youngest are more and more recalcitrant in the face of the obligation to wear a mask
A Yougov survey carried out for the Cardiosens platform reveals that 52% of inhabitants of France are afraid of transmitting or contracting Covid-19, in particular women (64%) and 35-49 year olds (64%). The survey was carried out on more than 4,000 individuals aged 18 and over, in France and the United Kingdom.
“Whatever the age, it is above all the women who manage the health of the children. They are first of all afraid for them”, notes Mathias Matallah, president and founder of the Medecine4i firm and health partner of Yougov, in the Sunday newspaper which unveils the survey exclusively.
In the list of fears mentioned by respondents, that of parents being affected is important, especially in the 35-49 age group. One in three French people (31%) worried also admits to being “afraid of dying”. In the UK, that figure climbs to 54%.
Regarding confinement, young French people (18-24 years old) are those who have been most forced into the formula “no work, no going out” (45% against 30% on average). Among the respondents who kept their jobs and practiced teleworking during confinement, one in two was forced to do so with at least one child under the age of 18 at home.
According to the survey, the people who were most affected by telework in France during confinement are senior executives and or those who exercise liberal professions.
The less and less popular mask
Conducted in early August, the survey also elicited the opinion of respondents regarding the wearing of a mask, revealing a major favorable opinion (88%) for wearing it in public spaces, including when it is not compulsory for 4 French people out of 10.
But the recent measures concerning the obligation to wear a mask seem to have modified the adaptability of the French. “Some of those who were up to now rather in agreement with government policy, and in particular the generation of 20-40 year olds, seem to switch to a sometimes visceral hostility”, observes Mathias Matallah. Among the most reluctant to wear a mask, young people (18-24 years old) and men under 35 years old.
Apart from the mask, the other barrier gestures to protect against the virus are on the whole largely respected, with reinforced personal hygiene (62%) and a particular concern for social distancing (69%), in particular by avoiding baths. crowd.
