In Germany, vaccination against Covid-19 is progressing: to date, around 19.5 million Germans have received a first dose of vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (i.e. 23.5% of the national population) and 5.9 million Germans are fully vaccinated against the disease (or 7.2% of the population).
But there are sometimes hiccups. Thus, this Wednesday, April 21, 2021, the German health authorities urgently summoned 200 people who had been vaccinated against Covid-19 to the Red Cross vaccination center in Friesland (a region in northern Germany). The reason ? A nurse admitted to having voluntarily injected a saline solution into 6 patients instead of a dose of Pfizer / BioNtech vaccine …
The nurse wanted “to avoid having to tell anyone” of her mistake
How to explain this situation ? The nurse in charge of preparing the injections accidentally dropped one of the vials of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine on the floor. She later confessed to one of her colleagues having instead injected a saline solution into 6 patients: it was the latter who alerted the authorities on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
“The woman said the reason for her act was to avoid having to tell anyone about the fallen vial“Wilhelmshaven / Friesland police added in a statement. The authorities stress that the saline solution used in place of the vaccine poses no health risk; an investigation”on possible bodily injury“has nevertheless been opened.
In Friesland, the 200 people vaccinated that day by the nurse will thus be tested for antibodies against Covid-19. The objective: to identify the 6 patients who have been “vaccinated” with saline solution to (this time) administer the anti-Covid vaccine to them.
