On January 14, 2021, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced the opening of vaccination against Covid-19 for “vulnerable patients at very high risk“from January 18, 2021. Are (among others) concerned: French people suffering from cancers, malignant hematological diseases, severe chronic kidney diseases, chronic poly-pathologies with at least two organ failures, rare diseases or another trisomy 21.
Yes, but here it is: according to a recent survey conducted by the platform Carenity (among 1,707 patients with chronic diseases, with an average age of 59), only 32% of chronic patients have (to date) been vaccinated against Covid-19.
76% of chronically ill people fear the consequences of vaccination on their pathology
Beyond the lack of doses, 62% of chronic patients say “to fear“adverse effects related to vaccines against Covid-19. to fear the possible consequences of vaccines on the evolution of their pathology – will the vaccines make their symptoms worse, will the vaccines risk increasing the frequency of seizures, can the vaccines interact with their daily treatment?
Despite everything, vaccination remains a hope for 67% of chronic patients who are sure to return to a normal life once vaccinated; they are even 65% ready to be vaccinated “to be able to travel” and 61% of them are even in favor of the vaccine passport.
For French people suffering from a chronic illness, the coronavirus epidemic (which has now lasted for more than a year…) is generating anxiety: 71% of patients feel this way “vulnerable” in the face of Covid-19 and 50% have even adopted additional precautions, in addition to barrier gestures.
