According to the annual Malakoff Humanis barometer, twice as many sick leaves linked to Covid-19 and its psychological consequences were recorded in 2021 than in 2020.
- The number of sick leaves linked to Covid-19 doubled between 2020 and 2021, rising from 6 to 12%.
- Stops for psychological disorders have increased. This is the second reason for long interrupts.
- 45% of young employees have taken sick leave in the last 12 months.
The Covid-19 pandemic has many consequences. Among them: an increase in sick leave due to the coronavirus over the past year. This was revealed the annual Malakoff Humanis barometer published on December 6 and carried out with 2,009 employees. According to published data, in 2021, 38% of employees benefited from a work stoppage compared to 36% in 2020. The main reasons for these interruptions are ordinary illness (22%), musculoskeletal disorders (18%), accidents or trauma (16%) and psychological disorders (15%). As for the share of shutdowns linked to Covid-19, it has doubled in one year. It went from 6 to 12%.
Psychological disorders are the second reason for long stops
Work stoppages recorded in 2021 are not only more numerous, they are also longer, i.e. lasting more than a month. “The lengthening of long stops is also due to the increase in stops for psychological reasons which are on average twice as long as the others”, said the barometer. Outages linked to Covid-19 represent 7% of long outages. An increase in multiple stops was also observed during the past year. 41% of employees arrested were arrested at least twice during the year, compared to 39% in 2020 and 37% in 2019.
Sick leave affects more young employees
The annual Malakoff Humanis barometer shows that many young employees have been arrested. According to the data, 45% of them have been prescribed sick leave in the last 12 months compared to 43% in 2020. They are more concerned by work stoppages for psychological reasons. Managers and women have also been affected by the health crisis. Sickness absenteeism is increasingly affecting small and medium-sized businesses. “It is in the transport sector that the number of employees arrested is the highest: 55% against 38% for all sectors”said Malakoff Humanis.
