- According to the WHO, Covid-19 still kills around 1,700 people per week worldwide.
- Due to a decline in vaccination coverage, the health authority recommends that patients in the highest-risk groups receive a coronavirus vaccine within 12 months of their last dose.
- For its part, Public Health France stresses the importance of adopting barrier gestures, in particular wearing a mask and washing hands regularly.
As of June 28, 767,518,723 adults and children have contracted Covid-19 worldwide, including 275,686,519 in Europe. According to Public Health France figuresa total of 6,947,192 deaths have been recorded, including 2,243,097 in Europe. Although this infectious respiratory disease, which has caused a global epidemic, has been less in the spotlight in recent months, it has made a comeback in recent weeks. This Thursday, July 11, World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the coronavirus is still causing the deaths of around 1,700 patients per week worldwide.
Covid-19: a decline in vaccination coverage
Despite the number of deaths, “Data shows that vaccination coverage has declined among health workers and people over 60, who are two of the most at-risk groups,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization. The body recommends that people in the most at-risk groups receive a coronavirus vaccine within 12 months of their last dose. As a reminder, this pathology has “also destroyed economies and paralyzed health systems. WHO has therefore urged governments to maintain surveillance and sequencing of the virus, and to ensure access to affordable and reliable tests, treatments and vaccines.”
Adopt barrier gestures to protect yourself from Covid-19
In France, syndromic indicators linked to the coronavirus remained stable in the city and in hospitals from July 1 to 7, according to the latest bulletin from Public Health Francepublished on July 10, 2024. A decrease in virological indicators and the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater was also observed. “The positivity rate of samples taken in the city was 24.7% (compared to 25.2% the previous week). The positivity rate of samples taken in hospitals was 11.5% compared to 12.3% the previous week.”
Faced with the active circulation of the coronavirus, the health authority strongly recommends adopting barrier gestures, in particular wearing a mask in the event of symptoms and washing your hands regularly, to protect yourself from this respiratory infection and its complications by limiting the risk of transmission to those around you and particularly to vulnerable people, especially in medico-social establishments.
