Hospital admissions for Covid-19 are rising sharply, Public Health France has warned.
- Experts are now talking about the 7th wave of Covid-19.
- 18,000 people are now hospitalized because of the disease.
This week, the increase in the incidence of Covid-19 has slowed down while remaining at a very high level, “with a marked increase in hospital admissions and deaths”, indicates Public Health France in his last report.
Increase in incidence rate
“The increase in the incidence and hospitalization rate is more marked in those aged 90 and over”, say public health experts. Mainly in question: the continued increase in the proportion of the Omicron BA.5 sub-lineage. Regarding the vaccination coverage of French people, 74.9% of people aged 18 or over and 84.8% of people aged 65 or over received a booster dose, but only 28.5% of people aged 60-79 and 37.1% of 80 or older eligible for the second booster dose have done so.
In this context, “Compliance with the combined measures remains essential to protect the most vulnerable populations”, consider the health authorities, for whom it is essential:
– to isolate themselves in the event of symptoms and a positive test for Covid-19.
– to apply barrier gestures including wearing a mask (in the presence of fragile people, in the event of crowding in closed spaces such as transport or large gatherings) and washing hands.
High temperatures
Be careful though: in this period of long-lasting heat, prevention against high temperatures is to be preferred, that is to say that the ventilation of closed places must be limited to the cooler hours of the day. .
