With the heat wave, many were impatiently awaiting this measure: wearing a mask will no longer be compulsory in public transport from Monday May 16.
- Since March 14, 2022, the mask was no longer mandatory in most indoor places.
- However, it remained compulsory in public transport such as buses, RER or trains.
“From this Monday, May 16, wearing a mask will no longer be compulsory in public transport”. This was announced by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran at the end of the last Council of Ministers. Nevertheless, there remains “recommended” to fight against Covid-19.
Vaccination obligation maintained for caregivers
Wearing a mask also remains compulsory in hospitals and nursing homes, as does the health pass, in particular to protect the elderly and immunocompromised, who are more vulnerable to Sras-cov-2. The vaccination obligation is also maintained for caregivers, even if the HAS must decide on this subject in some time. “We still make 40,000 Covid diagnoses a day. […] These establishments have paid enough to know that we must protect them in particular”, justified the Minister of Health, warning: “we are not out of the epidemic”.
Where is the epidemic?
In its latest bulletin, Public Health France indicated that the fall in the incidence rate had recently increased (-39% in one week), and this in all age groups. The decrease in the number of new hospitalizations also continues (-29%). Yesterday Tuesday, May 10, 20,835 people were hospitalized because of Covid-19, including 1,364 in critical care. 122 people died that same day, and 56,449 French people were infected in 24 hours last Monday.
In a recent statement, the WHO estimated that the total number of deaths directly or indirectly associated with the Covid-19 pandemic (described as “excess mortality”) between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021 was around 14. .9 million.
