Anti-covid mRNA vaccines have caused cases of myocarditis in France, Israel and the United States. This inflammation of the heart muscle is one of the rare side effects of the vaccine.
This Wednesday, a committee of American experts is convened by the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the main federal public health agency in the United States. Their mission? To examine over 300 cases of myocarditis in young Americans. The inflammations occurred after the injection of mRNA vaccines (Moderna & Pfizer-BioNTech) against Covid-19. “These cases are rare, and the vast majority (of them) have been resolved with rest and care ”, had indicated Thursday Rochelle Walensky, the director of the CDC, relates West France.
“The CDC will present the details of more than 300 confirmed cases of myocarditis and pericarditis communicated to the CDC and the FDA (the United States Medicines Agency), among the more than 20 million adolescents and young adults vaccinated in the United States. United”, confirmed Ms. Walensky.
In France, according to a weekly ANSM information point published on Wednesday, June 23, nearly 29 cases of myocarditis have been reported. For Pfizer, 25 of which 8 concern those under 30. The majority of cases are men and 7/8 cases have recovered or are in the process of recovery. For the Moderna vaccine, four cases, one of which occurred in an individual under 23 years old.
What is myocarditis?
Myocarditis is an inflammation of the myocardium, which is inflammation of the muscle tissue of the heart. This inflammatory reaction affects the functioning of the heart muscle. It remains benign in the majority of cases but requires hospitalization to prevent the risk of serious cardiovascular complications.
What are the symptoms ?
The cases are mild and can heal spontaneously in the vast majority of cases. The symptoms identified are roughly comparable to those of the flu, namely: fatigue, fever, migraine. However, it is necessary to declare them and to be under surveillance, since the most severe cases can be fatal, namely: pain in the chest, arrhythmia (i.e. irregular rhythm heart), palpitations or dyspnea (i.e. difficulty in breathing).
