In recent years, Lena Dunham has confided a lot about her state of health. Severely affected by endometriosis, she underwent a hysterectomy. A few months ago she confided that she had Ehlers Danlos syndrome, a genetic disease which is characterized by an anomaly in the supporting tissues. Add to that a broken heart, following her relationship with Jack Antonoff and here is a complicated cocktail for the young woman of 33 years. But one decision changed her life: to take a break from all her addictions, including men, she explained to Cosmopolitan.
After this last event, the creator of Girls realized that she: “was taking medication not only for physical pain, but also for emotional pain“. She pointed out in her interview: “Benzodiazepines (an anxiolytic) change the way the brain works, and suddenly you’re not yourself anymore. You are no longer present. I woke up one day at my parents’ house in the same pajamas for three days and I said to myself: this is not me. I no longer felt anything, nor even the desire to live.“
Toxic relationships
This realization leads the actress to a decision: to take a break from drug addiction, on the one hand, and a break from men too. For a year she has beencompletely single“, she adds : “I’ve been dating since I was 15. I have the right to take a break. Sobriety means more than not taking drugs. It is also according to me, to abstain from any negative relation“. A success for the producer of Generationwho goes so far as to say that this distancing from love and sex has “cured” her.
Especially since her relationships during her twenties tended to put her health at risk: going out too late, sleeping too little, not daring to say no to a request to go party for fear of being rejected… A social pressure which she has defeated this past year. And who allowed him to take care of her. She no longer consumes anything, even when she goes out at night!
