Three new suspected cases of people infected with the new coronavirus close to SARS have been detected in France. They come in addition to the confirmed case of a 65-year-old man.
“We have a third suspicion this morning, with a nurse from Douai”, is the announcement made by Dr Sandrine Segovia Kueny, deputy director general of the regional health agency (ARS), this Friday, May 10 on waves of France Bleu Nord. THEhe assessment of people infected with the “new” coronavirus close to SARS is now 3 suspected cases and 1 proven case of contamination. So, even if Douai’s 1st patient seems today in a stable state, would the virus be more contagious than what the researchers had envisaged? Indeed, what worried is that all the suspected patients have been in contact with the 1st infected person.
In its statement Thursday evening, the ARS reported two contact cases with the 65-year-old man. It evokes the room neighbor of the CH of Valenciennes, who was hospitalized Thursday in the infectious disease department of the CHU of Lille. “Contacted by his attending physician, this patient has presented symptoms since Wednesday requiring a specialized infectious disease consultation supplemented with samples and in-patient monitoring in a single room,” says the Agency.
Another suspected case reported by the ARS, that of one of the doctors from the CH Valenciennes, who was in contact with the patient with coronavirus infection. “He presented symptoms requiring his hospitalization in the infectious disease department of the CH Tourcoing (North) in order to take samples there,” said the press release. And to avoid the very beginning of controversy, the ARS also reports that the CH Douai was not aware of any symptoms on Thursday among the contact subjects identified within the establishment.
Finally, “the results of the tests carried out on these two people will be known shortly and will be made public, in accordance with the transparency commitments made by the health authorities”, concludes the ARS. The tests carried out on the patient at the Valenciennes hospital, the hospitalized doctor and nurse should therefore be known this Friday afternoon.
The confirmed French case brings the total number of infections with the new coronavirus (nCoV) to 31 worldwide, including 18 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
