Corns, calluses, partridge eye: do not wait to have sore feet
Subjected to repeated pressure or friction, the skin of the feet tends to form “horn”. We talk about horn, when it sits on top of the toes, callus when it develops under the soles of the feet and partridge eye, when the horn develops between the toes.
When should you consult?
If the horn begins to hurt, chiropodists advise against trying to apply a corricide yourself, sold freely in pharmacies: “Often, they gnaw healthy skin at the same time as dead skin, notes Muriel Montenvert, sometimes with consequences. dramatic in the diabetic, whereas a pedicure will solve the problem in one sitting. ” It is exactly the same for plantar warts, to be removed by the dermatologist or podiatrist.
Nail fungus: do not delay treatment
Streaked, yellowish, which thickens, even crumbles and deforms: nothing uglier than a nail attacked by onychomycosis. The worst part is that the microscopic fungus that parasitizes it is very resistant and contagious. The earlier it is, the more effective the anti-fungal treatment is, on condition that it is continued without failing to the end. And this is where the shoe pinches … Because you just have to skip a few days, or worse during the whole summer season, because you prefer to wear a beautiful colored varnish that hides the misery, and here it is. The enemy is picking up on the beast and escapes our control.
When should you consult?
If after six months, we have not dislodged the intruder and especially when the affected nail has become very thick. “A product applied under these conditions will only have 10% effectiveness, explains Cécile Blanchet-Richardot, chiropodist. better penetrate. “An operation to be repeated every three months, two or three times, the time to regrow a complete nail. If all the nails are affected, or if the damage goes up to the matrix, the pedicurist will refer to the attending physician or a dermatologist so that he prescribes an oral treatment in addition to local care.

Ingrown toenail: cut squared
When should you consult?
If the skin swells, turns red, the pain increases. Usually the podiatrist “makes up for it” in one session and inserts a small piece of compress (wicking) to guide the regrowth. If necessary, it can also reduce the curvature of the nail with orthonyxia (as orthodontics does for teeth). This painless correction, using resin or titanium threads, takes three to twelve months and limits the cases where minor surgery is still necessary.
Hallux valgus: act before the deformity is more painful
Hallux valgus is a progressive and partly hereditary deviation from the base of the big toe outwards. But, if it affects women more than nine times out of ten, it is also because the “bunion” is favored by shoes that are too high (+ 6 cm heel), too tight and too pointed.
When should you consult?
Sometimes the deviation remains moderate and not very troublesome. Even if it is not aesthetically ideal, no orthopedic surgeon will tackle it in this case. On the other hand, a podiatrist could possibly make insoles which will help to limit the deformation. If it becomes so important that putting on shoes becomes almost impossible or the pain no longer gives way, all you have to do is make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon.
