The test concert by Étienne de Crécy and Indochine at the AccorArena in front of nearly 5,000 spectators showed low transmission of the virus.
- Only 8 participants in the experimental group, present in Bercy, tested positive a week later compared to 3 among the control group, who stayed at home.
- During the show, the wearing of the mask was respected at 91%.
- Nearly three-quarters of nightclubs have announced that they will wait until September before reopening.
At last ! Closed since March 2020, nightclubs are allowed to reopen their doors from today. Despite this breath of fresh air and the feeling of “before life” that it arouses, the ever-increasing circulation of the Delta variant accompanies it like a small asterisk. In an attempt to take advantage of this reopening to speed up vaccination among young people, the two unions in the sector, the Union of Hotel Trades and Industries (Umih) and the National Group of Independents (GNI), are launching this Friday the transaction “a vaccination, a free entrance”.
9 out of 10 people wore their mask well
This Thursday, on the eve of this return to nightclubs, the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) presented the results of the test concert by artists Étienne de Crécy and Indochine, organized on May 29 in front of nearly 5 000 people at the Accor Hotel Arena in Bercy. For the volunteers, the conditions were strict. Upstream, each participant, aged 18 to 45, tested negative for an antigen test. These tests had to be carried out between Wednesday and Friday, while the concert was held on Saturday. All participants were also asked to undergo a saliva test on the day of the event, and then another seven days later. In the room, there was no physical distance between the spectators but the mask was compulsory. The number of cases of contamination was compared to another group, who stayed at home.
The results showed “no excess risk of infection”, indicated the AP-HP. In total, only 8 participants in the experimental group tested positive one week later compared to 3 in the control group, who stayed at home. The researchers also examined compliance with health instructions during the show and found that wearing a mask – compulsory for the duration of the show – was complied with at 91%.
Just over a quarter of nightclubs will reopen
At the time of the reopening of nightclubs, however, it seems difficult to transpose the results of the concert-test. During the latter, the Delta variant was not in circulation, or at least in proportions very far from the current situation where it is on the way to becoming the majority in the country. In addition, during the event, wearing a mask was compulsory. However, for nightclubs, it is only recommended.
Faced with strict reopening conditions, with the obligation for customers to present a health pass and have a gauge not exceeding 75%, nearly three-quarters of nightclubs have announced that they will wait until September before reopening. Guest of France Inter this Friday morning, Olivier Véran also warned against non-compliance with the rules. “I say it: there will be controls, and if there are clusters, it will appear like the nose in the middle of the face. We will be able to trace and escalate cases, there will be checks and sanctions if necessary.”
