Spending too much time on social media liking photos and videos of your athletic friends increases the risk of having poor body self-image, according to the results of a study published in the medical journal Health Communications. By comparison effect, and by identification, Internet users develop stress and anxiety about their weight.
The researchers conducted a study with 232 people connected to social networks from fitness and sports activities such as Trek, the walking, the gymnastic or gym workouts to analyze the effects on personality and complexes of adherence to this type of media.
The first effect observed by scientists was a very strong identification with two kinds of effects, one positive, the other negative.
Indeed, some people use the personalities of networks as a motor and by wanting to be like them manage to become more active.
On the other hand, the researchers also observed that the more the number of likes was numerous, the more the obsession of the weight was marked and the risk of complex high.
“This phenomenon potentially leads to a bad self-image and would worsen especially in people already complexed by their weight”, conclude the researchers.
