Curcumin associated with silymarin would be able to stop the multiplication of cancer cells in the Colon Cancer and eliminate them, depending on the results of a study published in the medical journal Journal of Cancer. This phytochemical path would offer a therapeutic route without side effects for treating colorectal cancers.
Food nourishes our body but also heals it. More and more studies extol the protectionist merits of a healthy and balanced diet on our health. This new publication shows that curcumin and silymarin associated would be able to stop the proliferation of cancerous cells of the Colon Cancer. Curcumin is the main component of turmeric spice and silymarin is a bioactive component of thistle used as a protective supplement against liver disease.
Colon cancer defeated by curcumin and silymarin
Researchers at the University of Saint-Louis in the United States have studied in the laboratory the antiproliferative effects of curcumin used alone like those of silymarin alone and those of the combination of curcumin and silymarin on cancer cells.
The results of their experiment showed that curcumin inhibited the proliferation of colon cancer cells in a concentration dependent manner, whereas silymarin allowed significant inhibition only at the highest concentrations of cells.
The researchers also found a synergistic effect when the cells of the Colon Cancer were treated with curcumin and silymarin together. Indeed, this combination led to the inhibition of colon cancer.
“It is therefore a promising alternative therapeutic approach, to standard drug treatments that has just been identified, free from toxicity problems and side effects”, explains Amanda Montgomery of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Saint Louis University. . Clinical trials are needed to validate the conclusions of this promising study.
