Headaches, intense and persistent fatigue… People who suffer from chronic fatigue are often described as lazy. This disease, still difficult to identify, should soon be detectable with a blood test.
Chronic fatigue syndrome: a disease difficult to identify
Chronic fatigue is a disease that is poorly understood both among people who suffer from it and the scientific community. Also called myalgic encephalomyelitis, this syndrome is manifested by persistent and deep fatigue.
If its causes are not yet fully explained, it seems that chronic fatigue syndrome is triggered by a viral or bacterial infection. This infection could later lead to a dysfunction of the immune system in the cells. But while it remains difficult to identify and treat, this illness is now easier to detect.
A blood test to observe the reaction of immune cells to stress
American researchers are indeed on the trail of a blood test. The latter would detect chronic fatigue syndrome. To develop it, the scientists called on 40 volunteers, half of whom had the disease. After taking blood samples from these people, the scientists carried out tests by adding sodium to them in order to cause cellular stress..
Result: blood samples from patients with chronic fatigue ” generated a ‘high electric current peak ‘ while those of volunteers without CFS remained ‘relatively stable’ ”, we read in the columns of Free noon. These stress reactions, different depending on whether the immune cells were healthy or suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, make it possible to detect the disease. and to consider, thereafter, an adequate treatment for the patients.
