After the Pick, the PIP prostheses, and the 3rd and 4th generation pills, Gardasil will it be the subject of a new health scandal? A criminal complaint has in fact just been filed on Friday against the laboratory, Sanofi Pasteur, which markets Gardasil and against the National Medicines Safety Agency, for “unintentional attack on the integrity of the human person” by a young woman 18 years old. According to the young woman, the vaccine against cancer of the cervix, uterus marketed by Sanofi Pasteur and already prescribed to more than 2.3 million young French girls, would be responsible for serious side effects on the central nervous system. Maitre Coubris, lawyer for Marie-Océane, this 18-year-old girl vaccinated three years ago with Gardasil, believes that the latter developed multiple sclerosis after the vaccination.
This is the first complaint in France against Gardasil but it could be followed, in the coming days, by around twenty other criminal complaints.
A causal link between Gardasil and clinical signs
Marie-Océane received her first injection on October 11, 2010 and the second on December 13. In February, the young woman was hospitalized following dizziness, vomiting, momentary loss of sight, walking and facial paralysis. According to his lawyer “the diagnosis of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (inflammatory disease of the central nervous system) or multiple sclerosis was quickly made”. Maitre Courbis is based, according to the daily Sud Ouest, “on a double expertise commissioned by the Regional Commission for Conciliation and Compensation for Medical Accidents (CRCI) of Aquitaine, which concluded that there was a causal link between the injection of Gardasil and an “acute inflammatory reaction of the central nervous system”, which after the second injection “decompensated an immune process”.
A temporal coincidence
If Sanofi Pasteur MSD, the laboratory that manufactures the vaccine confirmed the conclusion on Sunday, he reminds AFP that “it is based only on the finding of a temporal coincidence between the onset of symptoms and the disease and vaccination, without proving the causal link. “
The chairman of the technical committee for vaccinations Daniel Floret reacted strongly on RTL. He asserted that “international data shows no link between Gardasil and multiple sclerosis, and that “we pointed out the possible adverse effects, after a complaint against this vaccine. “He reminded the RTL journalist that” the international pharmacovigilance data do not show a link between this vaccine and any autoimmune disease, including multiple sclerosis “and that” the fact that there is a complaint does not prove that there is a problem “.”
New complaints to come
Maitre Coubris, the lawyer for the victims of the vaccine against uterine cancer, told Point.fr that 20 other families will file a complaint against Gardasil and recalls that “the side effects of this vaccine are not new and unknown. The Medicines Agency had already received at least three pharmacovigilance declarations concerning this vaccine and it had been informed long before Marie-Océane of the risks it entailed. the Gardasil is also one of the 59 drugs under surveillance. “
