This is what emerges from a study published in the journal Archives of Ophthalmology. Investigators looked at information from some 36,000 women from the US National Institute of Health. Over 2,000 of them developed cataracts during the study period. People who consumed the most lutein and zeaxanthin would be 18% less likely than others to develop this disease.
Those who consumed the most vitamin E may have a 14% lower risk than others of contracting cataracts.
