According to figures presented on the occasion of the first Global Forum of the Noncommunicable Disease Network (NCDnet) communicated by the World Health Organization this Wednesday, February 24, the most significant increases will be recorded in Africa (+24%) and in the eastern Mediterranean regions (+23%).
To date, non-communicable diseases, which also include chronic respiratory diseases, account for 60% of global deaths. In developing countries, these diseases kill prematurely (before age 60) eight million people a year.
“We now have affordable and achievable solutions for all countries to reverse this trend. Nevertheless, we know that changing people’s lifestyles is a long process. That is why we must act as soon as possible. today,” explains Dr Ala Alwan of the WHO.
