According to the INCa report, cancers of the prostate, breast, thyroid, testes, lips, Hodgkin’s disease, melanoma and leukemia are cancers with a good prognosis (i.e. 42% of cases of cancers) for which the 5-year survival rate is greater than or equal to 80%.
Among cancers with a poor prognosis whose 5-year survival is less than or equal to 20%, i.e. 17% of cancer cases, the report mentions cancers of the lung, pleura, liver, pancreas and esophagus. and the central nervous system.
Intermediate prognosis cancers with an estimated 5-year survival rate of between 20 and 80% are cancers of the colon, rectum, mouth, pharynx, bladder, kidney, stomach, cervix. uterus, ovary, larynx or acute leukemia.
The report reveals that the 5-year survival for all cancer sites combined is estimated at a rate varying from 51.9 to 67.8% depending on the data sources collected by INCa. Thus, some 165,000 patients could survive, each year, up to 5 years after the diagnosis made by health professionals.
