I got my blood result and see a vitamin B6 value of 226. How can this be so high and is it bad?

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) plays a role in the energy supply, is important for the resistance and ensures proper functioning of the nervous system.
At the Vitamin Information Bureau we often get questions about an excess of vitamin B6. The situation is quite complicated. Not everyone with a high vitamin B6 value in the blood has complaints, while the B6 values of people who report symptoms are not always strongly elevated.
It could be that the simultaneous use of vitamin B6 with several drugs is the cause of the high value. It is also possible that a high intake of vitamin B6 strengthens an existing deficiency of vitamin B12.
There is currently no unambiguous explanation. It is therefore difficult to determine to what extent complaints are actually related to the long-term use of supplements with vitamin B6.
Avoid dietary supplements
What should you do if you have a high vitamin B6 value? It is not necessary to take basic foods into account, continue to eat healthy. It is best to stop taking supplements and products with added vitamin B6, such as energy drinks and some drinks.
People who do not have an elevated B6 value do not have to worry about vitamin B6. It is, after all, an important vitamin. The safe upper limit is 25 mg, it is wise not to take more than that amount in the form of a supplement.
