Is it dementia or not?
Almost everyone suffers from a faltering memory from time to time. You can’t think of a name or you’re disoriented in the city on a busy Saturday afternoon. For an article in Plus Magazine we are looking for these kinds of examples of forgetfulness. And we want to find out when it’s a sign of dementia.
What did I want to pack in the kitchen again? What was that neighbor’s name again? How did that awkward coffee maker work? And that ‘handy’ app from the health insurer? We are looking for your experiences with this kind of forgetfulness. Because everyone sometimes has the anxious thought – is it dementia? Or is it normal forgetfulness? We want to try to get clarity on that.
We take a number of appealing examples from the responses. We present this to an expert in the field of dementia. Always with the question: is it a sign of dementia or not? How bad does a memory problem have to be before you have to worry? What are typical memory complaints associated with Alzheimer’s disease? We would like to address these kinds of issues.
Give a short comment
We are very happy about your examples of forgetfulness. You can respond below, in the box below this message. But you can also send a short email to health@plusmagazine.nl stating ‘forgetfulness’. Your name will not be copied in the article, it is about the examples of forgetfulness.
Or give an interview
We are also looking for people who want to share their personal story about forgetfulness and the fear of dementia. Have you had it researched? And what came out of that? You may have immediately felt a lot more confident about your memory when it turned out that it was not dementia. Or you have a preliminary stage of dementia and are now trying to postpone further deterioration with exercises for as long as possible. We are looking for people who would like to appear in Plus Magazine by name, surname and photo, with a short half-page interview. For this you can also write to health@plusmagazine.nl stating ‘interview forgetfulness’.
Please include your full name, age, address, email address and phone number. Also send a photo, your own snapshot with the smartphone is fine. We read all responses carefully and will contact you if your response is chosen for an interview. A photographer will then come by for a beautiful portrait.
You can respond until Monday 27 September.
