The text of law aimed at improving the care of care -cancer care was validated by deputies on January 28.
- After the Senate, the National Assembly voted the text aimed at reducing the costs remaining for patients with breast cancer.
- The text provides, among other things, the management of adapted bras and the medical tattoo of the areola and nipple or even care products prescribed by the doctor such as the cream against droughts.
- The excess of fees of doctors who make breast reconstructions will also be supervised.
According to the High Council of Public Health, women affected by breast cancer face an average remains of 1,400 euros. After the Senate, the Assembly voted in the evening of January 28 a text which aims to reduce this financial weight for the patients.
Breast cancer: What are the new care reimbursed?
In addition to the reimbursement of breast prostheses, the text, voted unanimously, provides for the care of adapted support and the medical tattoo of the areola and nipple. Furthermore, a specific package – the amount of which must still be defined – will allow the purchase of the products prescribed by the doctor who were not until then reimbursed. We can cite for example creams against droughts or the varnish preventing the fall of the nails.
In addition, another envelope will be used to pay psychological support as well as nutrition or physical activities of patients under treatment.
Another point of the law: supervision of the overruns of fees of doctors carrying out breast reconstructions has been provided. The amount will be negotiated in the medical agreement between health insurance and doctors.
Reimbursement of the rest payable: “This law constitutes a real advance”
For the rapporteur of the text in the National Assembly, the Communist Yannick Monnet, “This text meets the very concrete expectations of 700,000 women who live with cancer (breast) and for them, which are urgently, this law constitutes a real advance”. If he recognizes that the law could have “Go further” again, he specifies that it thus allows a “Quick application” measures “Long -awaited by associations” fighting breast cancer.
During the debates in the National Assembly, several elected officials shared their experience with the disease. MP Marine Hamelet (RN), diagnosed in early 2024, said she had a breast removal. “In my misfortune, I was aware of being privileged: the parliamentary indemnity from which I benefit allowed me to be able to face the various remains that crush the majority of women with this cancer”she explained. In early January, the president of the Yaël Braun-Pivet assembly also returned to her fight against breast cancer during an interview and revealed to follow hormone therapy.
