A senior executive with brain cancer has just won a lawsuit against his company in Italy. According to him, his tumor results from the intensive use of his mobile phone, in the professional setting, for 12 years.
Debate relaunched on laptops?
After examining the scientific arguments presented by the prosecution, the court validated the complainant’s request. This employee’s brain cancer has been recognized as an occupational disease and he will now receive a disability pension.
The studies put forward by the defense and questioning a link between cell phone and brain cancer during the first trial were rejected. The Court of Cassation ruled that there was a conflict of interest. These studies are financed by companies.
This court ruling is a landmark and will certainly revive the debate on the effects of the telephone on the brain.
Potentially carcinogenic portable
Already in 2011, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a specialized agency of the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the use of mobile phones as potentially carcinogenic to humans.
As a precaution, a few good gestures should be followed. It is recommended that you avoid using your phone in elevators and vehicles (where reception is poor) and when moving around (repeatedly changing relay antennas) as this increases exposure to waves. It is also advisable to favor short conversations, use the headset and avoid letting young children use a cell phone.
