In its series “the favorite versions of the French”, L’argus invites you to take stock of the BMW 3 Series customers’ favorites. What are the most popular finishes, engines and colors on the 7th generation sedan and station wagon? Answers in figures.
The 7and generation of the BMW 3 Series, marketed since 2019, is about to be restyled. During 2022, the German manufacturer’s star compact sedan will be renewed in the image of its station wagon version. The opportunity for the drafting of The argus to take stock of the versions that the French currently favor the most in concessions. In addition to a revisited style, remember that the G20 generation was developed on a new platform (CLAR) and notably introduced digital counters by adopting instrumentation on a 12.3-inch screen. Under the hood, there is a rechargeable hybrid engine (as on the F30) with optimized performance. The cumulative power of the 330th now peaks at 292 hp and the 100% electric range increases from 40 to 60 km. Gasoline and diesel with manual or automatic gearbox are still offered. Our study focuses only on BVA models, which represent the vast majority of sales.
Engine: diesel is still popular
While the share of plug-in hybrid engines has increased, statistics show that buyers still prefer diesel as much. And for good reason, BMW is popular with companies.
The 318d engine (150 hp), 2and power level in the catalog, represents almost a quarter of sales on the break (24.5%) and almost as much on the sedan (22.7%). Diesel is particularly popular on the station wagon since it represents 4 of the 5 most chosen blocks. This engine is associated in nearly 3 out of 10 cases with all-wheel drive (xDrive). The plug-in hybrid is the 4and most purchased engine on the break and ranks in 2and position on the sedan. Note the breakthrough of the 320i (184 hp), the only gasoline unit in the statistics, which takes 5and placement of the most purchased engines on the saloon.
Finish: sportiness above all
As for the finishes, we can say that the ramage does not relate specifically to the plumage!
If the vitaminized engines do not play at the forefront, on the other hand, the M-Sport level (and its sporting attributes) wins all the votes. It is by far the most chosen finish on the sedan (52.4%) and station wagon (47.3%). The other levels share the crumbs, starting with the Business Design and Luxury versions.
Overall, 3 Series (G20) buyers tend to opt for a more assertive look.
Color: in black or grey!
As for colors, BMW 3 Series buyers are playing it sober. In 6 out of 10 configurations, the sedans are either black (Saphirschwarz) or gray (Mineralgrau) metallic. On the break, the trend is reversed. Whatever the bodywork, white comes in 3and position: metallic on the station wagon, plain on the saloon. The latter still differs from its moving version by being selected in 4.4% of cases with Blue M Portimaoblau, an option around €1,000.
