March 9, 1999 – The Kiné-Concept Institute, the most important massage therapy teaching institution in Quebec and one of the largest in America, has just set up a private research center on touch.
The first institute of its kind in Canada, the Canadian Touch Research Center (CCRT) is interested in research into the prevention and relief of muscle tension and pain caused by various diseases. The CCRT wants to help reduce stress and improve the quality of life through pilot projects, in collaboration with other stakeholders in the health sector. “An important project on palliative care is currently underway, in partnership with the Mount Sinai hospital in Montreal,” says Dr. Réal Gaboriault, Ph.D., president and director of the CCRT.
Dr. Gaboriault, doctor in exercise physiology, leads a team passionate about research and recognized for its rigorous and professional scientific approach. “The results obtained are very promising; they tend to confirm that regular massage therapy sessions reduce the consumption of narcotics in patients suffering from terminal cancer, ”says the researcher.
Upcoming projects will measure the effects of massage therapy on the clinical signs of various diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis.
