What if women’s wardrobes could give them back pain ? The association of British chiropractors points to the risks of following fashion too much. The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) warns fashionistas: the choice of clothes is not trivial. The specialists draw up a list of the five worst women’s clothes because they can cause pain: at the top of this top 5 are skinny jeans that stick to the entire leg. They “restrict freedom of movement at the hips and knees, which affects body posture “, says the survey. In other words, if you wear skinny jeans and often have back pain, look no further, the culprit is all found.
Second in the wardrobe of these ladies, the “oversize” bags, very trendy (and often heavy when they are full) that are worn over one shoulder. Next in the ranking are coats with a large fur hood, high heel shoes (already suspected of increasing the risk of osteoarthritis) and finally mules.
Skinny jeans and high heels in moderation
The study does not invite you to give up these fashion accessories but rather to play the card of moderation. Tim Hutchful, chiropractor at the BCA Institute, clarifies: “There are simple solutions to reduce the impact of clothing on posture and overall health. For example, try to limit the weekly frequency with which you wear skinny jeans and high heels to give your body time to rest “.
The study also underlines that 28% of the 2000 women surveyed for the survey are aware of the risks of pain associated with certain clothing choices. However, this lucidity in no way influences their way of dressing.
