This approach follows doubts about the quality of the birth cases distributed in maternity wards. Among the controls that Afssaps (French Agency for Health Safety and Health Products) intends to put in place: greater vigilance with regard to the obligations of those responsible for placing these products on the market, and in particular with regard to safety.
If these drastic precautions apply more to birth cases, it is all cosmetic products intended for children under 3 years of age that are in fact concerned. Faced with these questions, Afssaps is setting up a working group attached to the cosmetology commission, responsible for assessing the risks specific to this population.
For Afssaps, this question is at the top of the priorities in the field of cosmetics for the year 2009. A monitoring mission that it carries out in concert with the General Directorate of Competition, Consumption and the Repression of frauds (Dgccrf).
Afssaps is responsible for ensuring that preservatives, dyes and ultraviolet filters appear in the list of product components and that a technical file has been drawn up. The French Health Security Agency has the power to suspend or ban products that do not meet its standards at any time.
