In Brittany, parents have filed a complaint against Gallia, a manufacturer of infant milk, after their three-month-old child regurgitated a worm. Two other cases would have occurred.
The manufacturer of infant milk Gallia is the subject of two complaints, while two babies have regurgitated a parasitic worm. The two sets of parents accuse the company of being responsible. Tuesday, February 25, a mother filed a complaint at the Saint-Malo police station (Ille-et-Villaine). “In November, her three-month-old daughter had a temperature rise. She took her to the emergency room where she was initially treated. And a few days later she vomited a 6-7cm worm from her mouth.”, reports the police station. In the deposition of the mother of the family, we can read that after analysis, the hospital concluded that there was a parasitic worm which “was not created” by the baby’s body.
Three cases identified in France
If this woman filed a complaint a few months after the events, it is because she “heard in the media that two other children had the same symptoms”. Another complaint was filed in Puy-de-Dôme, and a third case is suspected in Landes. “We were contacted by parents from Puy-de-Dôme who experienced the same situation, with the difference that they found the larva alive in the box”, says the complainant in the columns of Ouest-France. It’s about drinking infant milk.
The company is justified
Gallia belongs to the Danone agro-food group. “In the state of the information transmitted to date and without the boxes of milk having been returned to us for analysis, several hypotheses can explain the presence of an insect: the conditions of transport, storage in the warehouse, conservation, etc., justified the financial director of Danone, Cécile Cabanis, during a press conference intended to present the annual results of the group. “With regard to the production chain, we remind you that the milk powder does not transit in the open air. It travels in closed pipes and is packaged in a protective atmosphere with less than 2% oxygen, making it impossible for any living organism to survive under these conditions.she concluded.
